Bay Nature's Funders

Bay Nature Institute is chartered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable corporation. We are supported by a combination of earned income (product sales and advertising sales), donations from individuals, and grants from foundations and public agencies.

1. Grant Funders - Foundations
Grants provide funding for specific projects (including coverage of particular issues in Bay Nature magazine) and general support. Since the founding of Bay Nature in 2001, we have received grants for either general support or for specific projects or coverage from the following local and national foundations:
Bioneers Fund, Compton Foundation, David & Lucile Packard Foundation, David Klein Jr. Family Fund, Dean Witter Foundation, DMARLOU Foundation, Firedoll Foundation, Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, Jewish Communal Fund, JiJi Foundation, L.J. Skaggs & Mary C. Skaggs Foundation, Mary A. Crocker Trust, Marin Community Foundation, Peninsula Community Foundation, Richard & Rhoda Goldman Fund, Resources Legacy Fund Foundation, Rintels Charitable Foundation, The San Francisco Foundation, S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation, Strong Foundation for Environmental Values, True North Foundation.

2. Grant Funders – Public Agencies / Nonprofit Organizations
We have also received funding in support of content in Bay Nature magazine from the following public agencies and nonprofit organizations:
1906 Earthquake Centennial Alliance, Alameda County Public Works Agency, Alameda County Waste Management Authority, Alameda County Water District, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Bioneers, California State Coastal Conservancy, Contra Costa Water District, Ducks Unlimited, East Bay Regional Park District, East Bay Municipal Utility District, Marin County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, San Francisco Bay Joint Venture, San Francisco Estuary Project, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Santa Clara Valley Water District, Santa Clara County Integrated Waste Management Division, Save Mount Diablo, Save the Bay, Sonoma Land Trust, Sonoma County Agriculture Preservation & Open Space District, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (Coastal Program).

3. Business Sustainers
We have also received generous funding for general support from the following Bay Area businesses:
