October 1, 2003

by Jessica Lage, Wilderness Press, 2003, 308 pages, $17.95 (www.wildernesspress.com).

Book, Trail Runners Guide

Author Jessica Lage must have worn out many pairs of running shoes while researching her Trail Runner’s Guide. This guide, the first of its kind to cover the Bay Area, features trails in San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, and the East Bay. Each entry has all the details you need to choose and plan a run: directions, distance, terrain, alternate routes, difficulty rating, high and low elevation points, as well as notes on natural features and aspects of Bay Area history you may pass along the way. Chronicling everything from a three-mile jog along the San Francisco coast to a lung-bursting 11-mile ascent of Mount Tam, the book should inspire runners of every ability to get out the door and on the trails.
