Update: Bay Trail

January 1, 2006

2002

“The Bay Trail Comes of Age”

2002 was a momentous year for the Bay Trail Project, marking the halfway point of the planned 500-mile path around the Bay. More parkland has been added since then, with the largest addition being San Mateo’s Shoreline Park. Finishing touches are being put on trails at Sonoma Baylands and Novato’s Reservoir Hill, and Richmond added 2.7 miles of trails last year. The September opening of Oakland’s Union Point Park provides needed green space near Jack London Square, while the fall unveilings of Coyote Creek Trail in Milpitas and a new boardwalk at Alviso Marina County Park grant access to restored wetlands.

Next up, the Bay Trail Project will award grants for trail planning and construction projects from a $3.8 million Proposition 40 earmark, continuing the momentum towards completion of the regional trail.
