Ants!

March 28, 2014 by Eric Simons

On a beautiful spring afternoon under blue skies and sunshine, our group followed the California Academy of Sciences renowned entomologist Dr. Brian Fisher down the Presidio bluffs to look for ants. Fisher had surveyed this area years ago, he said, but not been back since its recent restoration.

What did we find? To our surprise, even though the Presidio generally is overrun by invasive Argentine ants, we found seven species, all of them native ants. Can anyone else claim to have only found native species in their search?
