Join docents Marilyn and Bill Bauriedel, and Tommi and Strether Smith on this 4.7-mile, moderately-paced hike along Peters Creek Trail and climb to Long Ridge Road to see one of the most beautiful views from a District preserve. Along the way, you’ll learn about ants and their special niche in the region’s ecology, as well as learn about current research on the spread of Argentine ants in California. You’ll also learn about native ants and how they are fairing in comparison.

For this activity at Long Ridge Open Space Preserve, meet at the Grizzly Flat trailhead on the west side of Skyline Boulevard 3.6 miles north of Highway 9, or 3.3 miles south of Page Mill Road. If you are traveling from the north on Skyline Blvd., the pullout is just past Portola Heights Road on the right. From the south, the pullout is near the Palo Alto city limits sign on the right.
