SUMMARY:Celebrate the Pacific Crest Trail: Adventure, History & Legend
DESCRIPTION:Since its construction in the 1930s\, hikers\, environmentalists\, and armchair adventurers have been captivated by the beauty of the Pacific Crest Trail\, which stretches for 2\,650 miles from Mexico to Canada through some of the most spectacular wilderness lands of our West Coast states. Tonight\, avid section-hikers Rees Hughes and Corey Lewis will read excerpts from “The Pacific Crest Trailside Reader”\, their new\, two-volume anthology of stories selected from historical journals\, classic environmental authors\, and contemporary hikers/writers to celebrate this National Scenic Trail. As Rees and Corey share tales of “trail angels”\, trailside humor and traditions\, and encounters with wildlife and weather\, they’ll show images of the length of the PCT. Noted guidebook author\, thru-hiker\, and contributor to the anthology\, Jeffrey Schaffer will join them to add his experiences of the magic of the trail. If you register for this free presentation at www.rei.com/berkeley\, we will hold a seat for you until the scheduled start time.
