SUMMARY:Indoor Seed Starting
DESCRIPTION:Growing plant starts indoors from seed that can't be directly sowed in the garden is an essential skill for the gardener and seed saver. For just pennies in materials you can grow seedlings for all the summer garden favorites including tomatoes\, peppers\, and herbs. Learning to start seeds allows you to choose exactly what crop varieties you want to grow without relying on nursery starts. Join Curate-a-crop to learn to grow an abundance of seedlings for future seed saving and how to plan your garden to become a self-sufficient gardener. Teachers: Patrick O'Connor is the director of the Bay Area Seed Interchange Library (BASIL). Mat Rogers directs the Backyard Seed Bank project. Curate-a-crop is their collaboration to select crop varieties suitable for the Bay Area and encourage local gardeners to grow these varieties. Curate-a-crop strives to create a living seed bank and a source of quality\, locally adapted\, open-pollinated seeds. More information can be found at www.curateacrop.org. Info: 510-548-2220 x239\, basil@ecolocenter.org\, http://ecologycenter.org/basil/. Wheelchair accessible.
