Explore a magical stream canyon on Diablo’s wild south side. As you descend from the exposed grassland ridge along Knobcone Point Rd into heavily wooded Madrone Canyon, shade produced by the dense canopy of oaks, maples, alders, bays and madrones will offer you a welcome relief on a hot summer day. Home to dozens of rare plants and wildlife, the area is a hotspot for biodiversity and forms a watershed divide between Marsh, Walnut and Alameda Creeks. Depending on weather conditions the hike will be between 4 and 6 miles with about 1,000 ft. of elevation gain/loss.
