SUMMARY:National Public Lands Day: Restore Habitat Along Pittsburg’s Kirker Creek:
DESCRIPTION:Join REI and Save Mount Diablo (SMD) to help restore native habitat along a section of Kirker Creek in Pittsburg\, near the entrance to historic Nortonville Canyon (5755 Nortonville Road). Work will entail removing debris and nonnative plants from the creek and shoreline to help improve water quality and habitat for endangered species.          No prior experience is necessary\, but participants must be comfortable climbing up and down steep creek banks\, carrying debris. SMD will provide project supervision\, tools\, and work gloves (bring your own\, if you have them). Ages 10 and older are welcome to participate; anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Each participant will be required to sign liability release forms for REI and SMD before commencing any project activities.          We recommend that you dress in layers for changeable weather and wear clothes you can get dirty–long pants\, long-sleeved shirt\, sturdy closed-toe shoes such as hiking boots\, as well as a hat/visor for sun protection. Bring a day/fanny pack\, sunscreen and a water bottle (with water). REI will provide morning refreshments and lunch. Following lunch\, SMD will take you on a tour of the historic Thomas Home Ranch and give you a sneak preview of plans for a regional trail corridor on the property.
