SUMMARY:Restore Wetlands at the National Seashore
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, February 23rd from 9:00am-1:00pm\, The Americorps Watershed Stewards Project and National Park Service’s Stream Team invite you to recreate with the environment and help improve critical spawning habitat for listed coho salmon and steelhead trout. All ages are encouraged to attend! Volunteers will aid in restoration by planting trees\, grasses and other native species at a heavily impacted wetland site near the Randall Trailhead at Point Reyes National Seashore. In addition to re-vegetation plans\, a newly integrated “cattle exclusion” fencing system was completed in Fall 2012 at the project location to help minimize grazing impact along the stream. These combined efforts hope to decrease pollutants (i.e. excess sediment\, nutrients and waste) and improve the overall quality of water flushing into Olema Creek\, a protected spawning and juvenile habitat. Volunteers should meet at the Bear Valley Visitor Center parking lot at 9:00am on the day of the event. Volunteers are also responsible for bringing closed toed shoes\, long pants (that can get dirty)\, a sack lunch\, water\, and sun or rain protection. Tools\, training\, and snacks will be provided. Please contact Katelyn Jordan at (512) 923-0277 or katelyn.jordan@ccc.ca.gov for any questions regarding the event. The mission of the AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Project (WSP) is to conserve\, restore\, and enhance anadromous watersheds for future generations by linking education with high-quality scientific practices. A special project of the California Conservation Corps\, WSP is sponsored by CaliforniaVolunteers and administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
