SUMMARY:Ring Around the Bay: An Epic Wetland Restoration Project
DESCRIPTION:     The largest estuary on the Pacific Coast\, San Francisco Bay is an ecological treasure; it supports hundreds of species of wildlife\, including 105 threatened and endangered species\, such as the California clapper rail\, salt marsh harvest mouse\, and snowy plover. Here’s a special opportunity to help these species thrive.              Join REI and Save The Bay for Ring Around the Bay\, a morning of volunteer stewardship activities to restore native wetland habitat around the Bay. When you register\, you can choose from four scenic restoration sites–Corte Madera Creek in Mill Valley\, Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline in Oakland\, Eden Landing Ecological Reserve in Hayward\, and Palo Alto Baylands. Work will entail cleaning up the shoreline and removing invasive plant species.              No prior experience is necessary; Save The Bay will provide work gloves\, tools\, and project supervision. Ages seven and older are welcome to participate; anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Each participant will be required to sign liability release forms for REI and Save The Bay\, before commencing any project activities.              We recommend that you come prepared to get dirty\, and wear long pants\, long-sleeved shirt\, sturdy closed-toe shoes\, and a hat/visor for sun protection. Please bring sunscreen and a re-useable water bottle (with water). REI will provide morning refreshments. Following the work projects\, you’ll enjoy a tasty lunch\, courtesy of Chipotle. Enter a raffle of a great REI gear prize\, and take home a goodie bag with REI and Save The Bay swag. Sixty volunteers are needed at each site.
