Led by Alvaro Jaramillo. For surfers, coastal San Mateo County is synonymous with its largest and most powerful wave – Maverick’s. For birders it is synonymous with another wave – migration! The San Mateo coast offers a wide variety of birding from shorebirds and raptor to vagrants at miratory stopover sites. This trip will help you find all the goodies, specialties, and diversity the coast has to offer! Alvaro is a senior biologist at SFBBO, well known for his popular classes and workshops offered through the observatory. He is the author of the Identify Yourself column in Bird Watcher’s Digest and books on birding and the environment, a frequent contributor to both scientific and popular birding articles, and leads international birding trips and pelagic outings through his own company, Alvaro’s Adventures.
