An avid hiker of Bay Area trails, Rick realized that fellow hikers might prefer artistic walking sticks that reflect the natural beauty of the flora and fauna around them, as opposed to the common store-bought products. When Rick retired in 2010 from the grocery business, this gave him an opportunity to explore his artistic interests. A friend of Rick’s showed him a beautifully carved walking stick which he had produced from a piece of driftwood. This inspired Rick to experiment with burning images into wood and adding color. Rick hopes that his art could serve as companions on a hike or leisurely neighborhood stroll, and as a totem in the home. The exhibit runs from December 1, 2012 – March 3, 2013.
