SUMMARY:The Ghost Below at The Marine Mammal Center
DESCRIPTION:Approximately 100\,000 marine mammals and nearly 1 million seabirds become an entangled in and die from ocean trash each year. Visit The Marine Mammal Center starting December 1\, and experience a magnificent art exhibit called The Ghost Below. Artists Richard and Judith Selby Lang have created the first of multiple sculptures that will be displayed at the Center throughout 2012-2013 as part of an ongoing art exhibit using a unique medium: fishing nets\, nearly 200 lb to be exact! The first  sculpture is shaped into a creature-like form and the nets were extracted from the belly of a sperm whale carcass that scientists from the Center were examining. This beautiful\, yet arrestingly haunting exhibit by these famous artists will immerse visitors with a powerful message of hope – we can make a difference to save our oceans and prevent ocean trash. Learn more at: bit.ly/TcG89Q Holiday Hours: The Marine Mammal Center is open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, except Thanksgiving\, Christmas and New Year's Day. Admission is free and no reservation is required unless you have a group of 10 or more people!
