Sunset on the winter solstice often produces a spectacular display of clouds and a shadow pattern on Turtle Rock that is the basis of a human creation legend. Join docents Tommi and Strether Smith, and Earl Girbovan for a 3-mile hike that will end at Turtle Rock in time for the sun down show and a discussion of the legend.
For this activity at Long Ridge Open Space Preserve, meet at the Hickory Oaks trailhead. The trailhead pullout is 5.1 miles south of Page Mill Road or 1.3 miles north of Highway 9 on the west side of Skyline Boulevard.
