SUMMARY:Olompali State Historic Park's 28th Annual Heritage Day
DESCRIPTION:The Olompali People and California State Parks will team up again this year to host the 28th annual Olompali State Historic Park Heritage Day at the park on Sunday\, May 19th. Heritage Day features activities tied to the park's unique cultural history and idyllic location on the flanks of Mount Burdell. Inhabited continuously for 8\,000 years\, Olompali has been a Coast Miwok Indian village\, a Victorian estate and a hippie commune. Heritage Day visitors can take guided walks to lean about Olompali’s birds\, plants\, and archaeology. They also can hear experts discuss the park's historic structures\, including the Camilo Ynitia Adobe\, the Burdell Mansion and the Burdell Victorian Garden. Returning this year will be the Dry Creek Pomo Dancers as well as Senior State Parks Archaeologist Breck Parkman\, who will discuss Olompali's rich archaeological legacy. Children of all ages can learn about local wildlife from representatives of WildCare\, and members of the Chosen Family will take visitors down memory lane to the 1960s\, when Olompali served as a commune frequented by celebrities including the Grateful Dead. A silent auction will be held to raise funds for the park\, with auction items donated by Marin and Sonoma County merchants and artisans. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free\, parking is $8. Olompali is located three miles north of Novato adjacent to Highway 101.
