SUMMARY:Ring Mountain Thistle Pull
DESCRIPTION:Come to Ring Mountain to help restore habitat on this special volunteer day. Today we will be following up on the annual “Ring Mountain Thistle Pull”. We will protect the endangered Tiburon Mariposa Lily by finding and removing invasive tocolote and yellow star thistles. These invasive plants were once a thriving population on the rise\, but this annual removal effort is yielding positive results. We have not found yellow star thistle in several years and tocolote star thistle is now on the decline. We will also have the opportunity to listen to interpretive talks\, and find out what’s in store for the future of this incredible preserve! Join us to become part of this habitat restoration success story. This is a light\, moderately strenuous activity and is suitable for volunteers of all ages. Dress in layers\, wear sturdy shoes\, and bring water. Heavy rain may cancel. If questionable weather\, call (415) 473-3778 after 7am on the morning of the event to hear a recorded message if cancelled. Questions: Contact Ring Mountain Stewardship Coordinator Sam Abercrombie at (415) 473-2128 or SAbercrombie@marincounty.org. Meet at the gate at the end of Taylor Rd in Tiburon. DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101 in Corte Madera\, take exit 449A for Tamalpais Dr east. Go straight onto San Clemente\, which merges into Paradise Dr after 0.4 mile. Follow Paradise Dr approximately 1.7 miles\, turn right onto Taylor Rd\, and follow to end (dead end).

SUMMARY:Free Docent-led Wildflower Walks at Edgewood Park
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the Bay Area\, Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve\, located near I-280 and Edgewood Rd. in Redwood City\, is famous for its spectacular spring wildflower displays. Friends of Edgewood docents offer free wildflower walks every Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00 from March 16 through June 9. Edgewood supports over 500 distinct plant species\, four of which are federally listed as endangered or threatened. In addition\, the fragile Bay checkerspot butterfly\, one of the threatened species\, has made its home in the unique habitat afforded by the serpentine grasslands. The various plant communities also provide habitat for frogs\, lizards\, foxes\, coyote\, bobcat\, raccoon\, deer\, and over 70 resident and migratory birds. Visitors can complement their docent-led walk by visiting the new Education Center located near the main entrance and featuring interactive exhibits that explain Edgewood’s connection to the surrounding landscape and its history. SUMMARY:A Walk in the Park: Help us re-vision Miller-Knox regional shoreline
DESCRIPTION:What: The East Bay Regional Park District is preparing a Land Use Plan Amendment for Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline and we want to hear your ideas! District staff will be at Miller-Knox to provide tours\, answer questions\, and hear your suggestions to re-vision Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline. Please come and share your thoughts on the future of this old\, immensely popular park where future uses of relatively recent acquisitions remain unplanned and deteriorated\, older portions need renovation. Established in 1975\, Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline was EBRPD's first shoreline park in Contra Costa County incorporating Keller Beach\, which the City of Richmond opened in 1967. Starting with shoreline and hillside lands acquired from Atchison\, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad and others\, EBRPD was able to expand lagoon area picnic area parklands to Ferry Point through a series of important acquisitions late in the 20th Century. In 2004\, you as enlightened voters approved Measure CC with $1.222 million for capital improvements to “Remove tracks\, fencing\, and re-grade railroad right of way to provide public access from park to the bay and to Keller Beach” plus a major renovation of meadow areas. TRAC’s major priority is carrying out the promise of Measure CC to develop a trail along the mile of shoreline between Keller Beach and Ferry Point while opening the lagoon area to the shore. When: Walking Tour of the Park begins at 10:00 am; Interpretive Hike in the Hills begins at 1:00 pm Where: Tours will start from the Sea Gull Group Picnic Area LOCATION: 900 Dornan Drive\, Richmond DIRECTIONS from 1-580: Exit at Canal Boulevard and turn left onto Canal Boulevard. Continue on Canal Boulevard\, turn right onto Seacliff Drive. Seacliff Drive becomes Brickyard Cove. Turn right onto Dornan Drive. All parking is on the left.

SUMMARY:The Green Hairstreak Project: Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day dedicated to the The Green Hairstreak butterfly! The Green Hairstreak is a member of the Lycaenidae Family\, or “gossamer-winged” butterflies\, and historically flew throughout the peninsula before human development. The primary goal of the Hairstreak Project is to connect two disjunctive butterfly populations in the Sunset District with street level plantings of host and nectar sources. If the two populations can interbreed\, their genetic viability and diversity will be more secure. The program: 10 am to 12 pm - Join us for hands-on learning\, and find out what it takes to create and maintain butterfly habitat for the Green Hairstreak. 12 pm to 3 pm Walk the Green Hairstreak Corridor with lepidopterist Liam O'Brien. 3 pm to 7 pm Volunteer & Site Steward Appreciation Party at Laura's. Meet at 14th & Pacheco\, the very first site! You can take the MUNI 6-Parnassus to the Corridor. Ride it all the way to the end\, and then walk north on 14th Avenue.
