Family-Friendly Bat Night at Shadow Cliffs
Thursday, September 03, 2009
6:30 PM
to
8:30 PM
Star naturalist Cat Taylor leads us on a bat exploration for all ages at Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area in Pleasanton.
On the night before a full moon, we'll have the light of the moon about an hour before sunset as we watch for bats to emerge and start hunting bugs over the lakes and marsh area of this small park.
Come for an optional short potluck at 5:45 pm -- bring a dish to share and your own dishware and beverage.
We'll start the program at 6:30, getting into bat-watch position by 7:15, watch bats until 7:45 or so and then take a short night stroll with flashlights until 8:30.
Dress in layers and bring water and a flashlight.
Accessibility: The route is dirt and gravel with some hills. Wheelchairs can take an alternate route on a short single track section. Jogging strollers OK, but regular strollers will not do well on this route.

Cost: Free hike ($6 per vehicle parking)
