Opportunity for Marin County educators, parent volunteers and others to learn the basic gardening techniques and concepts they'll need to create and sustain their school gardens.
Kids in Gardens
Are you a Marin County educator, parent volunteer or just want to learn more about gardening with students? Check out The Watershed Project's FREE program offered in Marin County this summer.
We will teach you the basic gardening techniques and concepts you'll need to create and sustain your school garden. With presentations, demonstrations and hands-on learning, you will explore examples of successful school gardens, learn soil science, practice vermicomposting and basic composting and propagate plants. We'll show you how to eliminate pests without harmful chemicals, reduce waste, conserve water and create a wildlife habitat.
You will receive a course binder that includes background information and many state standard correlated activities you can do with students. You'll go home with plants, seeds and lots of supporting information. Participants from Marin County will also be eligible for up to $2000 in grant monies.
