Join in a hike about ethnobotany: how the American Indians and settlers used native plants.
This hike is all about ethnobotany: how the Indians and settlers used native plants medicinally and in a wide variety of other ways. While you eat your lunch, you’ll hear about the history of this area: from 10,000 years ago up to the present. Docents Keith Johnsgård and Jenny Whitman will lead you through the four diverse ecosystems at Alpine Pond and Skyline Ridge Preserve (a 2-mile loop with a 275-foot elevation gain).
Please bring lunch and drinks. The hike will include lots of stops and lots of talk, and is unlikely to hold the interest of very young children.
Where to meet:
This Skyline Ridge Preserve activity will meet at the Russian Ridge Preserve parking lot located on the northwest corner of the Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35) and Page Mill/Alpine Road intersection (across Skyline Blvd. on the right). Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 35 minutes travel time.
