**EVENT FULL** Salt Ponds Photography Exploration

Saturday, July 18, 2009
2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Microbiologist Wayne Lanier and kite photographer Cris Benton will lead us out to their favorite spot at the South Bay salt ponds, unassuming drainage ditch they have dubbed "The Weep."

At the Weep, Cris will get out his kite and show folks how he captures surprisingly beautiful images of this landscape using the wind and a home-made remote for his camera. Meanwhile, Wayne will set up his field microscopes and we'll learn about the amazingly diverse creatures that create the colors and textures we see in Cris's aerial photos.

We'll cover about about 2 miles on this short hike and field session. Please bring snacks water, a hat and sunscreen, and be sure to dress in layers in case of a cool evening.

The trails here are very flat and, barring unexpected mud (unlikely in July) this hike should be quite accessible to wheelchairs, strollers, etc.

Sign up by sending an email or calling (see below) with your name, email, and phone, and the number of people in your party. Attendance is limited. Everyone who signs up will get a confirmation with directions.
