Trail Building in Uvas Canyon, Morgan Hill with Santa Clara County Parks

Friday, July 17, 2009 4:00 PM
to Sunday, July 19, 2009 2:00 PM

Build trails with Volunteers of Outdoor California.

This lushly wooded park of 1,133 acres, is nestled in upper Uvas Canyon on the eastern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. This mountain park offers hiking, camping and picnicking opportunities throughout most of the year. Steep canyons create high volume streams during the rainy season including several majestic waterfalls. The waterfall loop trail nestles into the side of a steep hill just above Uvas Creek. Several areas are nearly washed out from rushing water during peak flow. Because there is no place in many cases to dig the bench into the hillside, volunteers will work with rigging equipment to bring boulders from the creek bed to multiple locations where the rocks will be placed to form foundations for the trail surface. Other trail sections will get standard trio maintenance to improve the bench and open the corridor.
