Trail Building with the Volunteers for Outdoor California

Friday, October 23, 2009 4:00 PM
to Sunday, October 25, 2009 2:00 PM

Help build trails in Sugarloaf State Park with Volunteers for Outdoor California.

Sugarloaf State Park is located in a beautiful canyon surrounded by hills which vary between densely covered woods and wide open grassland. Bald Mountain has a peak accessible via an old fire road and is a popular destination for many hikers and equestrians. In addition to this path, there are over 15 miles of narrow walking and horseback trails winding throughout the park. Bikes are allowed on some but not all trails in the park. The bald mountain trail is also designated as a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Sonoma County Trail Volunteers are active in working with this park and others on trail maintenance. V-O-Cal will work with park staff and include SCTV in assessing the greatest current needs based on use and trail conditions. Currently we expect to work on approximately 2 miles of trail including the Vista Trail, Headwaters Trail and Red Mountain trail all of which are narrow dual use or hiking only trails. Included in this work will be at least two stream crossings we will repair, significant tread work and erosion control measures.
