The 805 acres of Armstrong Redwoods was set aside as a preserve by mega-logger ColonelJames Armstrong, surely one of the few 19th-century timber barons whorecognized both the beauty and the board feet in California’s redwoodgroves. The park has some excellent picnic grounds and features theRedwood Forest Theater, a 1,200-seat outdoor amphitheater, a popularsite for concerts and plays.
