Alum Rock
Alum Rock Park, the first municipal park in the state, nestles in the foothills of the Diablo Range just a few miles from busy downtown San Jose. The park’s peaceful acres offer trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding; picnic areas and barbeques; children’s play lots and sand volleyball courts; a visitor center with educational displays; and the Youth Science Institute, a science education center for young students. The park’s canyon setting provides grassy south-facing slopes, forested northern exposures, riparian habitat along the creek in the valley bottom, and expansive views from the ridges.
