This new park extends 8.5 miles along San Francisco Bay’s east shore, from Richmond to the north to Oakland in the south, over 1800 acres of land and water. Most of the land was created by fill previously placed in the bay and the park supports a mixture of natural and developed areas.The shoreline supports tidal marshes and mudflats, and the land provides areas for walking, cycling, and nature observation. The East Bay Regional Park District is restoring native habitats at a few locations. The San Francisco Bay Trail extends along most of the length of the park.

The park borders a number of other recreational and cultural sites including the Emeryville, Berkeley, and Richmond marinas, Ceasar Chavez Park in Berkeley, the Albany Bulb, Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline, and the Rosie the Riveter National Monument in Richmond.
