Friends of Five Creeks is an all-volunteer group working hands-on to protect and restore the creeks and watersheds of North Berkeley, Albany, and south El Cerrito and Richmond, in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Please join us at weekend work parties, weekday “weed warrior” sessions, interpretive walks, talks, tables at fairs and festivals, and much more, from art-making to bug hunts. We welcome youth, school, and other groups.

Coastal Cleanup, This Saturday!

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, more than 80,000 people will hit the California coast for a not-so-typical day at the beach. Coastal Cleanup Day is right around the corner and the state’s largest volunteering event will likely net some 1.2 million pounds of trash. A staggering number indeed, which raises the question — How does all this debris end up on the shore?
