Walking Mount Tamalpais

On the Map
Mount Tamalpais has a long history as a hiking destination, offering generations of city dwellers easy access to sweeping vistas and intimate landscapes, and inspiring words and images that reflect its beauty. Artist and historian Tom Killion collaborated with poet Gary Snyder to publish Tamalpais Walking (Heyday Books, 2009), which traces the mountain’s natural and cultural history and celebrates its beauty in Tom’s woodblock prints and Gary’s poems. On a hike across the mountain’s higher flanks, Tom recites poetry and stories from the mountain’s past and shares some of the treasures of its natural world.
