St. Patrick’s Day Hikes Around Dublin’s Rolling Hills

March 14, 2013

Dublin, Calif., isn’t exactly known for great hikes. But there are plenty of little-known gems to check out, especially  if you find yourself this St. Patrick’s Day weekend drawn to the Irish capitol’s sister city in the East Bay. While Irish fans celebrate in the town below, go explore the rolling green hills in the area and look out for leprechauns (are they even native?).

In need of a thirst-quencher afterward? No problem. Head to the Dublin Civic Center afterwards and grab a pint. But don’t forget to wear green, or you might get pinched!

This area is a large open range of hills home to many varieties of plants and small animals. The hills are rich and green right now, complete with some wildflowers for a truly beautiful visual experience. The trail can get busy, but after about 2 miles, visitors thin out.

For great views of Dublin, look no further. These rolling hills are full of exotic grasses, studded wooded ravines. The views are plentiful as you climb further up into the hills, showing the bustling city. You may even be able to see the festival from a peak!

This little-known trail is still under construction but is a great little nook between Dublin and San Ramon developments. After a short burst of beautiful green wilderness surrounding a creek, the trail turns residential, but the beauty of the forest canopy over the grasslands makes up for it. This is a great trail to introduce your children or young pets to nature.

Very close to Tassajara Creek, these two hikes can be completed in one day. This trail is usually empty also, which is a treat. The hills are bright green and cows roam freely. There’s an overlook not to be missed near the middle of the lengthy trail, from which you can see all surrounding cities.

Also a lesser known space, this trail provides great views of San Ramon. Though not in Dublin, it is close enough to hop over to the festival afterward. The grass on the rolling hills completes the scenic overlooks, to fulfill your hiking needs in a short distance.
