October 1, 2011

Pease Press Maps (peasepress.com), 2010, double-sided foldout map, $7.95.

Whether you’re looking for a new lunch-break stroll or an all-day weekend hike, this map provides useful information that even a native can appreciate. You may be surprised by the multitude of protected hills and peaks in the city, many giving you million-dollar views.

The map is perfect for sparking a picnic plan on Bernal Hill or some other destination, and with easy-to-read mileage and topography, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. The map extends from San Bruno Mountain to Angel Island and the Marin Headlands, so it includes some longer local hikes within reach of public transit.

Historical monuments, museums, farmers’ markets, and the best views are all highlighted, and planning loop routes is easy with the map’s well-marked public transit lines. Grab a friend, put on your walking shoes, and explore the city on your own two feet.
