San Francisco Natural History Series

To learn more about local nature and meet the people who study, conserve and advocate on its behalf, don’t miss the monthly programs presented by the San Francisco Natural History Series. Co-sponsored by the city’s Recreation and Parks Department, the series offers free, public presentations by prominent scientists, photographers, and other naturalists on the fourth Thursday of the month at the Randall Museum. Ruth Gravanis—the series’ “temporary” unpaid coordinator for the past five years—has lined up the following programs for the remainder of the year: On October 25, USGS hydrologist Stephen Phillips will discuss “San Francisco Groundwater,” focusing on the geometry, flow, chemistry, use, and recharge of the city’s groundwater basins. On November 29, nature photographer Jo-Ann Ordano will present her slideshow, “Spring Wildflowers in and around San Francisco.” There is no program in December.
