A Bird in the Hand is Worth…: What We Can Learn by Catching Birds

Thursday, August 6 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

| Free

A Birdy Hour Speaker Series Event

An important step in lots of ornithological research is catching birds—but why? Dr. Katie LaBarbera will discuss what we can learn by catching birds, from close-up observations of birds in the hand, to what catching and then re-catching birds can tell us about movement and social behavior, to using genetic techniques to spy on birds’ secret love lives.

Dr. Katie LaBarbera is a senior biologist at SFBBO. She got her PhD at UC Berkeley studying Dark-eyed Juncos in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and has also studied House Wrens and gray treefrogs. All of her clothes have birds on them.
