A Virtual Outing: Urban Place to Open Space

October 10, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

| Free

Lace-up your virtual hiking boots and join Greenbelt Alliance Board member Bob Johnson for a Zoom outing in the East Bay Hills.

Our saunter begins in the Berkeley Woods neighborhood above Tilden Park. We’ll explore a few blocks to view some interesting architecture, see where some famous people lived, and visit the location of several former interesting plant nurseries.

From there, our armchair journey takes us into Tilden, where Bob will show us some of the efforts made to reduce fire danger at the urban/open space interface. We’ll hike the Upper Packrat trail to see a great variety of native plants. Our virtual outing ends at Jewel Lake where Bob will describe the lake’s interesting history and also talk a bit about the people who created the East Bay Regional Park District and why those lands remain so important to us today.
