Barnali Ghosh: Flower Mimicry and Transformation

Saturday, April 1 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Free

Final Wayne Roderick Lecture of the 2023 season; free; open to the public; no registration required.

In 2021, Berkeley-based designer Barnali Ghosh started a new pandemic project: taking photographs of herself dressed as California native flowers, centering the brown body and using South Asian fabrics and dance forms. The images took the native plant world by storm. Ghosh will share the backstory of these viral images, her recreations of the gorgeous flowers she found at the Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Tilden, and how the project helped her find belonging in the native plant community and beyond.

At the Regional Parks Botanic Garden’s Visitor Center Auditorium in Tilden Regional Park, in-person only. This lecture will not be recorded.
