Our Journey into the World of Field Research
Join us as two students share the journey of their first experience in scientific field research as SFBBO interns at the Coyote Creek Field Station. The students attend nearby Mission College and were sponsored by the community college’s HSI-STEM summer research program. Twice a week over the summer, the students had hands-on interaction collecting data from birds banded at the field station. They used this data, along with two decades of historical field station data, to search for patterns that might be associated with the amount of rainfall.
Katrina McCollough is currently studying at Mission College with the goal of getting into the mycology field. She is interested in continuing her studies and wants to focus on mycoremediation or agroforestry. Katrina has been known to spend an entire paycheck on books and loves old sci-fi.
Erin Clear is a student at Mission College who aims to enter the field of biology. She has always loved nature, being outdoors and working with animals. When she’s hiking you can be guaranteed she will always stop to identify a bird call.
