Trail Highlights Walk @ 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM
Longtime Volunteer Elaine will lead a “Visitor Choice” walk depending on what the attendees want. So, it may include the Tidelands, LaRiviere, and Quarry trails or all three. Heavy rain would cancel, but a light shower might give all a chance to sing and splash in the rain.

Refuge to the Rescue @ 1:00-2:30 PM
Join docent Larry Rosenblum on a tour of the refuge while learning about the dire state of San Francisco Bay 60 years ago and how the creation of the refuge played a role in preserving and restoring it. Learn how the refuge rescued two endangered species and rescued us as well! Rain cancels.

Twilight Walk @4pm
Experience the salt marsh at twilight on an easy stroll along refuge trails (about .6 miles). At the setting of the sun we will observe the beginning of nature’s night shift. Come discover the sights, sounds, and smells of the refuge as night descends. Not suitable for young children. Tickets are very limited. If you are not able to attend please cancel through this website and someone on the waitlist will be notified. You can also call 510-377-5659 for help and more information. Drawbridge Program @ 12:00 -1:00 PM
Learn about the history of the Bay Area’s very own ghost town, Drawbridge!
Join Ceal Craig, Ph.D., a 20-year volunteer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for a unique opportunity to dive into the history of Drawbridge, a ‘ghost town’ that once housed a thriving community on an island along the South San Francisco Bay.

Hike the Refuge’s Most Popular Trails @ 1:30 – 3:00 PM
Breathe in the salty bay air and take in the expansive views of the shoreline on this approximately three (3) mile hike along our most popular trails, the Tidelands and LaRiviere Marsh trails. And while we’re inhaling deeply, getting our hearts pumping, and flexing our muscles, we’ll keep our eyes open for birds, mammals, and other wildlife who are indulging in the beauty and quietude of the Refuge in autumn.
Meet the hike leader at the Don Edwards SF Bay NWR Visitor Center in Fremont. The hike duration is between 1-1.5 hours. Moderate pace. Trails are mostly unpaved (dirt). One small hill climb and descent, otherwise flat. Dress in layers, bring water and wear comfortable trail-running, hiking, or walking shoes. Optional: Bring binoculars and/or a camera. Open to all, but best enjoyed by those 12 years old and up. Limit: 15 participants. No dogs, please. Rain cancels.
