Nature Heals & Inspires Series: Ecopsychology two-part series presented by Ecotherapist, Darlene DeRose.

Ecopsychology and How to Reconnect with Nature: Part 2

Ecopsychology is a field of study that seeks to understand the connection between the human species and the natural world (plants, animals, elements). Ecotherapists operate from the philosophy that we suffer (as persons and as a planet) because we have lost our connection to Nature.

In this two-part series, we will examine the four “tasks” essential to reconnection, guided by the writings of ecophilosopher Andy Fisher. Topics include returning a sense of sacred to nature; understanding our psychological connection to the natural world; exploring the ways in which our social institutions and practices perpetuate the disconnection; and developing a commitment to practices that support Nature connection.

About Our Guest Speaker

Darlene DeRose holds a masters degree in consciousness and transformative studies from John F. Kennedy University, where she specialized and earned her certificate in ecotherapy.

Darlene combines her practical skills as a gardener with her desire to support health and healing in her community. A University of California Certified Master Gardener, she leads the Master Gardener Community Garden Project Team in Contra Costa County. In that capacity, she recruits volunteers and supports a broad array of residential, institutional, and neighborhood gardens in the community.

She is also an active volunteer with Support4Recovery, a local nonprofit that supports individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, bringing nature-based activities to the recovery community. She leads a monthly EcoGroup at the Lafayette Community Garden, and speaks to various organizations and groups about the healing benefits of nature.
