Feminist Bird Club: Birding at San Francisco Botanical Garden & Social at Shakespeare Garden

Join the Feminist Bird Club for a leisurely morning bird outing as we take our time to meander through and discover the many birds that call the San Fransisco Botanical Garden their home.

Afterward, for those interested in social time with fellow feminist birders, we will head to the Shakespeare Garden to hang-out and get to know each other. Let’s hang out!

We will have binoculars to share and as always, all abilities are welcome, especially beginners!

We are requiring masks at this time.

We follow the ABA Code of Birding Ethics:


If you are able, we ask each person attending to donate $5.00 to the San Francisco Botanical Garden, chosen by this event’s organizers Maddie and Sara Beth. This donation is not required. You are also free to donate more. Donate here:

Wheelchair Access

Most of the Garden’s pathways are wheelchair accessible, and accessible pathways are marked on wayfinding signage with the ISA symbol. Complimentary wheelchairs are available at either Garden entrance on a first come, first served basis.

Restrooms and Pathways

Accessible restrooms are located near the Friend (North) Gate, at the Botanical Garden at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Tea Garden Drive.

Getting There

There are two entrances, the Main Gate near Ninth Avenue, just inside the Park, and the Friend (North) Gate on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just steps from the Japanese Tea Garden, de Young Museum, and California Academy of Sciences.

Meet just inside the Main Gate at 9am.

The Garden is served by several public transit routes such as the N-Judah streetcar, 44, 28, 29, 7, 6, and 43 buses.

Parking for cars and bicycles is conveniently located in the Music Concourse Garage. Access to Music Concourse Garage parking is from Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. across from the Botanical Garden (enter the park at 9th Ave and Lincoln Way, garage entrance will be third right) or Fulton Street at 10th Avenue. The south pod (Cal Academy side) of the garage is closest to the Botanical Garden. Parking in the 800 space garage is encouraged.

Limited street parking is available in Golden Gate Park.

Additional bike parking is available at both the Main and Friend (North) entrances.


The free Golden Gate Park Shuttle offers access to the Botanical Garden and the eastern half of Golden Gate Park with stops along JFK Drive, and at the Music Concourse in front of the de Young Museum, which are a short walk to the Friend (North) Gate entrance of the Botanical Garden. The shuttle operates on weekends and holidays from 10am to 7:30pm.


Admission is FREE for SF Botanical Garden Members and San Francisco City & County Residents (with proof of residency).

Proof of San Francisco Residency:

A California driver license or ID showing your San Francisco address is best for proof of residency.

A recent utility bill, lease, or other official documentation showing your San Francisco address as well as a photo ID is acceptable too.

Digital proof on your smart phone (i.e. photo of your ID, screenshot of your utility bill) is acceptable.

Everyone gets in free daily from 7:30-9am (enter via the Main Gate).

If you are not a SF Botanical Garden Member or San Francisco City or County Resident, you can enter the Main Gate before 9:00 am between 7:30-9am and your admission is free. Otherwise, tickets are:

Weekend Adults= $13

Youth & Seniors (Ages 12-17 and 65+)= $7

Children (Ages 5-11)= $3

Toddler (Ages 4 and under)= Free

Families (2 adults and all children under 17 residing in the same household)= $21


All adult participants will need to complete this waiver online prior to the event. Once you register for this event, we will reach out to you via email to complete a waiver prior to participation”

If you are planning on bringing anyone under the age of 18 with you, please email for a children’s waiver (children do not require an extra ticket)
