Filoli Nature Hikes

September 15, 2018 @ 10:00 am - April 13, 2019 @ 12:00 pm

| $190.00

3rd, 4th, 5th Grades
Relaunches in September of 2018
During their 2-hour hike in the Nature Preserve, your
students will be challenged to hike briskly up hills and
use all their senses to observe nature. Filoli’s Nature Hike
reinforces many of the NGSS Life Science Disciplinary Core
Ideas, with an emphasis on interdependent relationships
in ecosystems. Your students will learn how the plants,
animals, and people in Bay Area ecosystems interact in
incredible and surprising ways, and what adaptations help
them thrive on Filoli’s Nature Preserve.
Filoli is a unique setting for exploring these interactions
because of the great variety of natural and human-made
plant communities, including redwood forests, oak
woodlands, agricultural fields, the formal garden, and
even the compost. Students will also trace the many ways
people have used the land over thousands of years, from
the Ohlone to the families who lived on the estate.
