In-Person: I.D. Our Invertebrates – Lake Merritt, Oakland

September 26, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

| Free

After a year of drought and high salinity, what invertebrate organisms are living in Lake Merritt?

Not a full-blown bioblitz, but targeted exploration. We will work alongside Cal Academy scientists Alison Young and Rebecca Johnson, as well as local naturalists, to survey invertebrates in our oceanized tidal lagoon.

Depending on turnout, we can explore the rocky area by the Sailboat House marsh.

Settling plates will be brought to the location for viewing. A few people at a time will be able to explore docks that are regularly locked and not used by the public.

Safety: We will observe all public health requirements for a safe event and we will limit participants in the area. Wear a mask. Open to fully-vaccinated people and younger children who are ineligible for vaccines with their parents.

Where to Meet: Meet at the edge of the parking lot on Bellevue Avenue as shown in the image.
