Join us for another restoration day at the Furtado Barn at Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve
Join us for this long term restoration project!
Furtado Barn is a beautiful riparian site with lots of potential for restoration. We are determined to reduce the invasive species surrounding the barn and orchard and replant natives in the surrounding area to improve habitat for wildlife. We would love your help to come restore this beautiful place so that visitors and wildlife can both enjoy. This project is going to regularly occur on the 4th Saturday of each month and will be led by David Mauk.
Please ensure that you bring the following items with you:
- Cloth face mask (just in case)
- hand sanitizer
- personal H20 bottle (2 liters minimum)
- Your own snacks
- Clean bandana for wiping face
- Hat and sunscreen
- long sleeves and long pants
- sturdy hiking boots
We will provide clean gloves, tools, and project-related supplies for the day as well as training on invasive species removal such as hemlock, thistle, mustard, and others. You must have a release of liability and have reviewed our updated COVID-19 forms and vaccination request. We will email all participants by August 25 with all of the abovementioned paperwork to allow enough time for review and sign.
Please be on time and note that cell service is limited within Alum Rock Park. We will be meeting promptly at Alum Rock Park at 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and then caravanning up to the Furtado Barn restoration area; this means that if you are late we might not be able to wait for you. Specific location will be communicated to volunteers once we have checked all paperwork.
There are some unexpected challenges with this work site including driving a winding road, high heat, steep terrain, rattlesnakes, bees, and ticks. We would like all participants to be aware of these challenges so that we can best accommodate you and help you feel comfortable. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any concerns about the work site.
Please keep an eye out for communications from email@example.com.
Youth older than the age of 14 may participate with the consent AND supervision of a guardian. Guardians must sign up with youth for youth to participate and must email Kat Hill (firstname.lastname@example.org)to sign off on release forms for youth. We cannot accommodate youth under 14 years of age.
Please contact Kat (email@example.com) if you have any questions about this Land Stewards event.
