Join us as we welcome featured speakers Jim Covel, Retired Director of Interpretation at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Alicia Goode, Preparator Supervisor and Taxidermist at the Oakland Museum of California.
Do you remember the stuffed birds at the Rotary Nature Center? Many who visited the Rotary Nature Center remember those displays. Many of those specimens were local to Lake Merritt and served as a “3-D Field Guide” for people interested in identifying birds they saw on the lake or around Lakeside Park.
Collections of specimens represent a bygone era of scientific investigation, and at the same time have now become a treasure trove for scientists looking to piece together California’s heritage.
We’ll share some stories behind the taxidermy at the nature center and the Oakland Museum, as well as look at the future of taxidermy and museum scientific collections. FREE Registration on Eventbrite: https://lakeside-chat-12-taxidermy.eventbrite.com
