LakesideChat # 26: What Led to a Nudibranch “Boomtown” in Lake Merritt?

Friday, January 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

| Free

Nudibranch specialist Robin Agarwal will introduce us to the illusive sea slugs of Lake Merritt & explore their puzzling recent success.

A shocking ecological apocalypse for the large, iconic species of fish, like bat rays and striped bass , may have been an unexpected bonanza for sea slugs in Lake Merritt.

Sea slugs, which include the nudibranchs, are small marine gastropods. They have been part of the lake’s estuarine community for decades at least. As ecological recovery begins in Lake Merritt after August’s fish kill, known sea slug populations blossomed and new species appeared.

Join us as nudibranch specialist and journalist Robin Agarwal seeks an explanation.
