To celebrate California Biodiversity Day 2020, Grassroots Ecology is hosting a biodiversity hunt that anyone can join from home. We will first meet virtually, where our staff will share a short introduction to taxonomy, how it helps us to make sense of the amazing diversity of life around us, and why California is such a biodiversity hotspot. Then we’ll all head out to look for and observe organisms from distinct taxonomic groups. The scavenger hunt can be completed throughout the week. (Tag us @grassrootsecology on Instagram and we’ll repost your findings!)
California Biodiversity Day takes place on September 7th of each year, marking the anniversary of the launch of the California Biodiversity Initiative in 2018. This annual event celebrates our state’s exceptional biodiversity, while also encouraging actions to protect it. This year, the event is being celebrated statewide from September 5 to September 13.
This gathering will take place over Zoom. The Zoom meeting link will be included in the confirmation email as well as on the online event page accessible after registration.
This event is open to all. Grassroots Ecology encourages people from all identities and backgrounds to participate in our programs.
