The Pileated Woodpecker is the American Birding Association’s 2021 Bird of the Year . In its honor, Sequoia Audubon Society of San Mateo county, with its partners MROSD and San Mateo County Parks, are featuring woodpeckers in the lead up to the Great Backyard Bird Count.
On Saturday, February 6, from 10 – 11 am, Alvaro Jaramillo will give a webinar “Meet the Woodpeckers”.
He will talk about the species of woodpecker to be found in San Mateo county including, of course, the Pileated Woodpecker.
Alvaro Jaramillo is a world-renowned ornithologist, author, and tour leader who also happens to be a local birder residing in our beautiful county. He also serves as Affiliated Senior Biologist for the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory.
He will be joined by Karine Tokatlian, biologist and bird specialist for MROSD.
The Great Backyard Bird Count takes place this year on February 12-15. See Sequoia Audubon Society’s webpage and follow us on Facebook for more fun events and how to participate.
