Mount Tamalpais Turtle Observers

Saturday, February 9 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

| Free

About the Program:

Become a trained Turtle Observer and you will monitor and record behavior of the native Western Pond Turtle on Mt Tamalpais. The western pond turtle, Actinemys marmorata, is a federally listed vulnerable species. These are the only fresh water turtles native to California, and they can be found around Phoenix, Lagunitas, and Alpine Lakes in the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed.

Volunteers monitor turtles from February through June on their own schedule. Volunteers can be as young as 8 years old if accompanied by an adult.

How to Join:

All new turtle observers must participate in our Turtle Observer Training on Saturday, February 9th from 9am to 12noon. The required orientation includes observation techniques, a discussion on turtle biology, methods for engaging the public, and a walk to a lake.

To participate in the training, RSVP is required as space is limited. RSVP by emailing
