Protecting Our Marine National Monuments: An Evening of Hidden Beauty

November 15, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

| $5 – $25

Conservation filmmaker and award-winning photographer Ian Shive will present a special collection of breathtaking images of our marine national monuments — from coral reefs, turquoise waters, and pristine beaches to underwater marine life, tropical fish, and birds galore. His expeditions were recently featured in the movie Midway: Edge of Tomorrow (2017), and will be featured in the movie Hidden Pacific (2019). Come see a sneak preview of the film before it’s released!

Following Ian’s presentation, learn about Earth Island’s efforts on behalf of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument and other marine protected areas, through a panel discussion and Q&A featuring:

Sumona Majumdar, Director, Earth Island Advocates
David McGuire, Director, Shark Stewards
David Phillips, Director, International Marine Mammal Project
Ian Shive, CEO, Tandem Stills + Motion
Deborah Sivas, Director, Stanford Environmental Law Clinic

After the panel discussion, there will be an option to accompany David McGuire through the Brower Center’s exhibition, Art/Act: Brian Skerry – SHARKS. Ask everything you’ve wanted to know about sharks.

Finally, you’ll enjoy a wine and cheese reception – for vegans and non-vegans! Please join us.
