About this Event
Donations are gratefully accepted, and 100% of donations go to providing free seed and education to the community by paying for our website, Zoom account, and online forum platforms. RichmondGrowsSeeds.org is providing thousands of free vegetable seeds to the community each season, the Lettuce Unite! newsletter, and a community forum for gardeners. We also host the international SeedLibraries.net website and newsletter that supports communities around the world to create local seed and seed sharing. Your donation will help to keep seeds in the hands of people!
Do you rely on getting seeds or starts from a nursery? This year there was a rush on seeds and many people struggled to get seeds. Create a more resilient garden by making seed saving part of your practice. How can we save seeds to be more resilient in crisis from pandemics to climate change?
Over 94% of the seed commercially available 100 years ago is gone. The loss of genetic diversity and the current model of breeding for uniformity makes our food system much more susceptible to shocks from pest and diseases to severe weather events from climate change. Additionally, most of the seeds both farmers and home gardeners purchase are grown outside of the US making access more vulnerable. Help create a local seed shed in your community and be part of the solution.
