Sonoma Mountain Ridgeline Hike with Park Partners!

March 21, 2020 @ 7:30 am - 2:30 pm

A rarely offered hike allows participants to enjoy a point to point hike from Ag & Open Space East Slope to Sonoma County Regional Park North Sonoma Mountain Trail along the Sonoma Mountain Ridgeline for some spectacular views of the Valley of the Moon and San Pablo Bay.

The hike will traverse the Bay Area Ridge Trail starting just before the Eliot Family Loop Trail located on the east side of Sonoma Mountain, on a privately owned property and forever protected through a conservation easement donated to the Ag + Open Space District.

The Ridge Trail then travels north on the Sonoma Ridge Trail North Sonoma Mountain Ridge Trail. It passes through forests and grasslands on the eastern and northern flanks of Sonoma Mountain; then descend on aa well-designed narrow trail through beautiful oak woodlands to North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park.

Hikers will arrive at North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park and Preserve promptly at 7:30 to park and shuttle to the trailhead. please note this is the last opportunity for the bathroom, but note that the park does not have water. Please come prepared with water!

The shuttle takes approximately 45 minutes to arrive at the end of Grove Street at the Eliot Property. We will ascend from the property to the Eliot Family loop and into the Ag + Open Space East Slope Trail for some of the INCREDIBLE views during the morning hike. Entering Jack London park, we’ll stop for a lunch break at a scenic stop. We intend to arrive back at cars no later than 2:30 pm.

This is a strenuous hike with some steep ascents and descents. We will hike approximately 9 miles, and there are some elevation gain and uneven footing. There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
