Strawberry Creek Park – Uncovering Creeks Has Its Day – Livestream

June 10, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Strawberry Creek Park is a historic project, the first daylighting of a creek in the nation, setting standards and inspiring the uncovering of many buried creeks including nearby East Bay Creeks, such as Sausal Creek. Join us to hear the stories of how it all happened and what it has meant, as well as the defeated efforts to open more of Strawberry Creek through downtown Berkeley.

Presenters

Richard Register, Founder and Emissary of Ecocity Builders, is one of the world’s great theorists and authors in ecological city design and planning. He is also a practitioner with four decades of experience activating local projects, pushing establishment buttons and working with environmentalists and developers to get a better city built and running. He was founding president of Urban Ecology (1975) and founder and past president of Ecocity Builders (1992-2014), both nonprofit educational organizations.

Janet Byron has a master’s degree in journalism from UC Berkeley and years of experience as a reporter, writer, and editor. Janet also is an experienced BPWA walk leader and co-author, with Bob Johnson, of the popular guidebook Berkeley Walks.

Join us for what will be a fascinating look at daylighting creeks.
